The new Engine 46-1 and Engine 45 are here!
Two years ago the process started to purchase two new engines for the Downingtown Fire Department to replace the aging engines in our fleet. After viewing a few different engines from Chester County and Lancaster County an engine spec was established that took into consideration our response area and neighboring jurisdictions. The low roof will make it easier to travel through all the tunnels and the short wheel-base will make it easier to navigate the tight streets within Downingtown Borough and East Caln Township. A low hosebed and front bumper hose lines will make it efficient for our crews to have a more versatile fire attack during incidents. Needless to say there is a lot of planning and consideration that goes into establishing an engine spec. All of this work was completed by Past Asst. Chief Stephen L. Miler through our local Pierce Manufacturing dealer Glick Fire Equipment Company. They have been fantastic to work with through this entire process. None of this would be possible without Downingtown Borough Council and East Caln Township Board of Supervisors. Their support in securing the funds for these two new engines has meant a lot to the members of the Downingtown Fire Department.
The next steps to prepare the engines for service include extensive driver training and equipment mounting. The equipment mounting will be handled by Glick and the driver training will be handled internally for previously qualified engine operators. We look forward to showing the community our new engines. We are proud of them and hope you are too. |
