At 2:39pm the Downingtown Fire Department along with Station 39 (West Bradford Fire Company) and Station 51 (First West Chester Fire Company) were dispatched to a house fire in the Johnsontown section of Dowingtown Borough. Asst. Chief 45 (J. Trego) went onscene and upgraded the assignment to a working fire dispatch. Engine 46-1 was the first due engine and laid a 5" supply line from a nearby hydrant. Crews from Engine 46-1 and Engine 46-2 began an aggressive fire attack from the rear of the house. Following an initial knock on the fire, crews made entry to finish an interior attack and prevented the fire from spreading into the front of the house and the neighboring house. Additional crews from Stations 45, 39, & 51 assisted with secondary handlines, ventilation, and search. We'd like to thank Station 47 (Lionville Fire Company) and Station 6 (West Whiteland Fire Company) for providing standby assistance while units operated at this call.
